Sting (born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) is a British musician, singer, songwriter, and actor. He was born on October 2, 1951, in Wallsend, Northumberland, England. He is best known as the lead vocalist and bassist for the rock band The Police, which was popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
After The Police disbanded, Sting pursued a successful solo career, releasing hit albums such as “The Dream of the Blue Turtles,” “Nothing Like the Sun,” and “Ten Summoner’s Tales.” He has also collaborated with many other artists, including Eric Clapton, Mary J. Blige, and Shaggy.
Aside from his music career, Sting is also an actor, having appeared in several films and TV shows, including “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” “Dune,” and “The Last Ship.” He is also an activist, particularly in the areas of environmentalism and human rights.
Over the course of his career, Sting has won numerous awards, including 16 Grammy Awards and three Brit Awards. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Police in 2003, and he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000.
